50歲的諾麗占(Kak Noorizan)自從18歲嫁為人妻後,從此就開啟了她賣豬腸粉的生涯。那為何諾麗占會選擇售賣豬腸粉?原因很簡單,就是“嫁雞隨雞”!她的丈夫初入社會時,那時在一家工廠打工認識了一位華裔友人,友人就介紹他當豬腸粉小販。諾麗占嫁給她丈夫之後,夫妻俩就開始販賣豬腸粉的生活。當時,丈夫以販賣豬腸粉為副業,另外還有一份正職。諾麗占白天在家裡準備豬腸粉的配料与及熬煮醬汁,待丈夫放工回家之後,兩人就到夜市一起販賣豬腸粉。

年轻时諾麗占和丈夫一起过着辛苦打拼的日子,當時兒女還小,小俩口唯有帶兒女去開檔。跟在父母身邊久了,自然懂得如何開檔及售賣豬腸粉。如今,長大成人的兒女們每天會分佈于不同地区的夜市摆摊販賣豬腸粉。除外,善良的諾麗占年轻时还收养了鄰居的孩子。那時因鄰居的丈夫去世,孤母一人养家顾子,生活十分难熬。於是諾麗占就收养了鄰居的孩子,偶爾会帶他們到檔口幫忙,学习经商。如今,養子們已經長大,他們偶爾也會回來幫忙諾麗占開檔。

諾麗占的丈夫现已經選擇了退休的生活,而諾麗占還是過着和兒女們一周六日開檔當小販的日子。諾麗占說:“如果要我待在家,我會很不自在的。”她寧願每天為開檔而忙,活动活动胫骨,也不願在家過清閒日子。諾里占表示现在她的工作其实算很輕鬆的,只需每天早上9時起身,熬煮醬汁後,再幫忙準備配料,其餘粗重工作都交由兒女代勞。

但豬腸粉畢竟算是華人傳統食品,在諾麗占和丈夫刚刚開始售賣時,就曾遇過非华裔顧客們不太接受的時期。不過,經過諾麗占和丈夫解釋及介紹之後,顧客們慢慢接受尝试,而他們生意也開始好转。

经商的都知道導致生意變差的因素眾多。天气好坏就是原因之一,尤其是當小販的,当遇到下雨天时也只能聽天由命。除外,諾麗占和丈夫也常檢討自己,如何把食物做得更美味而增加销量。丈夫就曾詢問華裔友人如何把醬汁煮得更好吃,當然,友人也無私地分享秘訣或給予建議。如今,諾麗占和丈夫精心調配与改良的醬汁,也是客户们的最愛之一!有位常客表示說:“這家的醬汁很特別,比起其他家的,這家的比較不甜。”

之前,諾麗占除了販賣豬腸粉外,她還是配料的供應商。她表示,那时因为有很多顧客拿了貨卻拖欠帳目,還曾導致她资金無法周轉后,她就不再供應貨品了。现在諾麗占只向 88SPMart 进貨,后開檔售賣。

Kak Noorizan who is now at the age of 50, started selling Chee Cheong Fun after she married to her husband at the age of 18. Why would she choose to sell Chee Cheong Fun? The reason is simple, that is to stand by her love. When her soon-to-be-husband started working in a factory as a freshman, he met a Malaysian-Chinese colleague from his workplace who suggested him to sell Chee Cheong Fun. After Kak Noorizan married to her husband, she started selling Chee Cheong Fun alongside with her husband. At first, her husband picks up Chee Cheong Fun as a sideline while holding a vocation. Kak Noorizan uses her day-time to prepare the ingredients and sauces required to sell Chee Cheong Fun at home. After her husband returned home from work, they will sell it in the night market.

Kak Noorizan and her husband had a hard life in the past, while her daughter was still very young that time, Kak Noorizan had to bring along her daughter to sell Chee Cheong Fun. As her daughter has been accompanying her for some time, she too learned how to sell it at the stall. At the present, Kak Noorizan’s children are all grown up and also selling Chee Cheong Fun at different night markets at the same day. Kak Noorizan adopted a few step childred back in the past. This happened back when her neighbour’s husband passed away and leaving behind children. Kak Noorizan offered to look after them. The neighbor and her children often times will help out at Kak Noorizan’s stall occasionally, even up until today.

Now, Kak Noorizan’s husband has retired but Kak Noorizan and her children are still opened for business during weekdays. She said: ‘I cannot get use to staying at home.’ She rather open for business everyday than spending her time relaxing at home. Kak Noorizan considered herself quite relaxed, as she just need to prepare the ingredients and sauces in 9 o’clock every morning, while her children will do the heavy work.

Chee Cheong Fun is a Chinese traditional food. At the beginning, they found that some customers can’t accept that Kak Noorizan’s family who are Malays selling it. However, after some explanation and introduction, customers begun to accept it, and business was getting better.

There will be issues that cause the business to be down temporarily like rainy weather, but other factors that can be improved is how to make the food much better. Kak Noorizan will always review with her husband on the subject. Her husband tend to seek to make a better sauce, and of course his friends tend to generously share recipes and recommendations. And now the sauces made by Kak Noorizan and her husband is favourite among their customers. One of their customers said, ‘Their sauce is very special, comparing to others, the sauce they are selling is less sweet.’

Other than selling Chee Cheong Fun, Kak Noorizan use to be a supplier of ingredients of Chee Cheong Fun. Due to many overdue customers, it caused her cash flow to tighten and turnover was not good for her. She ultimately chose to not supply anymore but to buy from 88SP Mart instead.
